Chabad of South Broward in Florida held its 41 annual dinner on the luxurious Grand Princess mega yacht on Sunday, as it focused on the plans to quadruple the size of its center.

Guests boarded from the Diplomat Landing Marina in Hollywood and were greeted by music by Choni Teitelbaim and a wine selection presented by Ricardo Kasinsky. as they roamed around the three floors of the yacht.

Dinner Co-Chairmen Ephraim Kaufman and Shui Kastel, and event coordinator Dorit Antian planned the details of the event making it successful, lively and joyous. Jewish music star Gad Elbaz brought dinner guests to the dance floor for nearly two hours.

The emcee was Shmuel Tennenhaus, Rabbi Yossi Lebovics led in the recital of Tehillim. Rabbi Leizer Barash read a letter from the Rebbe to the congregation from 1985, in which the Rebbe added a paragraph about his holy father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson OBM, after whom Chabad’s first Synagogue in Broward is named.

The first Chabad Center in Broward County was founded in 1980 and the Campus is comprised today of two buildings. Chabad of South Broward includes a Preschool, Hebrew School, Teacher’s Seminary, 3 Mikvahs for the physically challenged, Camp Gan Israel, The Friendship Circle for children with special needs, a Kollel, and a drug prevention program.

Addressing the guests, Head Shliach Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus stressed the need for an expansion. “A huge influx of families to Hallandale and surrounding neighborhoods made it necessary to expand the Shul grounds,” he said, announcing that he expanded the expansion plans from $18,000,000 to $30,500,00 “due to phenomenal growth.”

The added 60,000 square foot space will give more room to the pre-school, Hebrew School and adult education classes, CTeen and Friendship Circle Youth Center, parking garage, a women’s balcony, expanded Teacher’s Seminary, and a larger kiddush/social hall.

This year’s honorees were Gustavo and Carina Lancewicki – Oiseh Chesed Award, Alejandro Chaberman – Hallandale Developer of the Year, Batya Levy and Chanie Israel – Eishet Chayil Award, Aryeh and Raizy Greenberg – Dugma Chaya Award, Shabsi and Sheina Kabacznik – Young Leadership Award.
